Since November, 2002, I have released an article "What Is Learning In Graduate School" in this site (Sorry in Japanese only). The revised article is selected as a column in the following book "University Ranking in Japan, 2006 Edition." This book is one of famous data books about univeristies in Japan. This book collects university rankings from various view points such as Student Satisfaction, Web Site Information, and so on. My column appears with "The Ratio of Students Who Go on to Graduate School" (on p.144). I am very happy if this article helps you to consider what is learning in Graduate School.  | |||||||||||||||

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan accepted our proposal to found the Policy Grid Computing Laboratory in Kansai University. This is a five-year project to research the application of grid computing techniques to form policies of governments, enterprizes, and so on. We will release our research products throught the following web site. Sorry that Japanese pages are only available now. English papges will come soon. http://www.policygrid.jp |

In Japan, new school year starts from April. Everyone must expect to develop some area in the new school year. Please set your aim concrete. I hope that you get them. From this year, our research center has moved to the Research Center for Networking, Kansai University. We will concentrate on our research topics with our research staffs. Our research results will be presented in domestic and international conferences. Especiall we starts our research project of Robo Cup from this year. We will attend Japan Open held in Osaka, and try to implement the simulation results on toy robots such as Mindstorms. I was strongly motivated by the international conference in Portugal. It moves me to work harder in my jobs of research and education. | The second term will start from the final week of September. I should prepare
for the classes in the second term. I should also prepare for the Office Hour
to welcome the next generation.
I am enjoying the seminors with the laboratory members. While it is summer vacation now, we have three presentation opportunities (August 5-6, August 21-23, and September 9-11). In the first seminor held on August 5-6, we learned the Fuzzy C-means Method for clustering. If you want to attend the presentation during summer vacation, I am welcoming you. During school holidays, I would like to concentrate on experiments, writing papers, reading papers and preparing next research projects. I am asking members of my laboratory to introduce papers in which they are interested. While it is summer vacation now, we will have three presentation opportunities (August 5-6, August 21-23, and September 9-11). I am looking for having their presentations. | Mar. 25, 2002 - Apr. 1, 2002 | Kansai Branch of Japan Industrial Management Association (JIMA) will hold a Case Study Presentation and a Tour of Factory on April 13 and April 19, respectively. In the Case Study Presentation, the relation between Information Technology (IT) and Management will be discussed. We can see the Total Quality Management (TQM) Activities in Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. in the Tour of Factory. In both the plans, we can learn from activities on the spot. | Mar. 8, 2002 - Mar. 25, 2002 | Now I am working as a track organizer for 2002 IEEE SMC, which will be held in Tunisia. A track organizer calls for papers which are related to a certain topic or theme to present in a conference. This project is beneficial for participants since they can have presentations which are concentrated to one research field. This is first time for me to work as an organizer for an international conference. I informed my world-wide colleagues of my track related to genetic algorithms by e-mail. I received over 20 propositions among about 100 invitations! I see that those researchers want to have opportunities to present their state-of-art research works. I was so encouraged by their enthusiastic research power. I hope to have the same productivity in research work. |
